How to decode Base64 to an image

  1. Paste the Base64

Paste a data URI or raw Base64 string, or load it from a .txt file.

  2. Pick the output type

Choose PNG, JPG or WebP — the tool verifies the magic number matches.

  3. Download the image

Save the re-encoded image file — all decoding happened on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Which Base64 inputs are accepted?

Data URIs or raw Base64 that decode to genuine PNG, JPEG or WebP bytes. The decoded magic number is checked and the image is re-encoded before download.

Why is an SVG data URI rejected?

SVG is text that can embed scripts, so decoding it as a raster image would be unsafe. Only real raster formats with matching magic numbers are accepted.

Can I decode an image from a URL?

No. Only Base64 content you paste or load from a text file is decoded. Fetching external URLs is deliberately not supported.

Does decoding happen on a server?

No. The text is decoded and verified entirely in your browser — no upload, no account, nothing leaves your device.

Verified data URI decoding

Here is what each format is for, and when converting data URIs into image files is the right move.

What is Base64 strings?

Text-safe encodings of binary images used in CSS, JSON payloads, test fixtures and API responses. Useless to a design tool until decoded back into bytes.

What is Verified image files?

Real PNG, JPEG or WebP files. The decoder checks the leading magic bytes, rejects mismatches, SVG and remote references, then re-encodes for a clean download.

When you need it

Use it to recover images from API responses or JSON fixtures, to inspect a data URI you found in CSS, or to round-trip with the encoder. If the magic number does not match a supported raster format, the tool refuses rather than guessing.
