Frequently asked questions

How are lines ordered?

By Unicode code point — digits before uppercase letters before lowercase. Equal lines keep their original relative order because the sort is stable.

Can I sort ignoring case?

Yes. Turn off case sensitivity and lines are compared case-insensitively, so "banana" sorts before "Cherry".

Can I sort in reverse?

Yes. Choose descending order to reverse the direction — the ordering rules stay the same.

Does my text leave my device?

No. Sorting happens entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.

Deterministic line ordering

Here is what each format is for, and when converting scrambled lines into sorted lists is the right move.

What is Unsorted lists?

Names, keywords, paths or log lines in arbitrary order — hard to scan, hard to diff, and inconsistent between exports.

What is Sorted lines?

Deterministic Unicode code-point order, applied stably so ties never shuffle. The same input always produces the same output, perfect for diffs.

When you need it

Use it to normalize lists before comparing versions, tidy keyword or name exports, or make config files diff-friendly. Remember code-point order puts all capitals before lowercase — case-insensitive mode reads more naturally for mixed text.
