Frequently asked questions

What does "cleaned" mean in the result?

It means no structural damage was detected, but the file was rebuilt into a fresh, well-formed PDF. A new copy is written with a rebuilt structure — open it and check the content against your original before relying on it.

Can you restore content that was already lost?

No. Repair works on the structure that is still readable. If text or images were already missing from the damaged file, recovery cannot bring them back — always preview the result before using it.

Will a repaired PDF keep its digital signature?

Probably not. Rebuilding a PDF can invalidate existing digital signatures, so keep the original file and treat the repaired copy as a working replacement.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

Yes. Repair runs on our server, and only after you confirm the upload on the page. The temporary copy is deleted when the conversion request finishes.

Which files can it handle?

PDF files up to 25 MB and 200 pages, including slightly damaged files whose signature is not at the very start; severely truncated or encrypted files may be unrecoverable. Free use is limited to 5 conversions per day, shared across our upload-based tools — there is no unlimited option.

Does it work on password-protected PDFs?

No. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first — use our Decrypt PDF tool with the password, then repair if still needed.

Repairing damaged PDF files

Here is what each format is for, and when converting damaged PDFs into readable copies is the right move.

What is Damaged PDF?

A PDF that will not open, opens partially, or reports errors — often the result of an interrupted download, a crashed export or a failing storage device.

What is Repaired PDF?

A freshly built PDF containing whatever the recovery could still read from the damaged file, with a rebuilt structure that standard viewers open cleanly.

When you need it

Use repair when a PDF refuses to open or behaves oddly in viewers. Recovery works on readable structure only — it cannot recreate content the file has already lost, so preview the result before you depend on it.
