KB / MB / GB use powers of 1,000; KiB / MiB / GiB use powers of 1,024. Uppercase B means bytes; bit means bits.

No. Processing runs on this device. Inputs and results are not uploaded or saved by this tool.
Storage uses two scales. In decimal, 1 MB = 1,000 KB; in binary, 1 MiB = 1,024 KiB. The binary units are written KiB, MiB and GiB to keep the two apart, and the gap between them grows with each step — about 2.4% at KB, 4.9% at MB and 7.4% at GB.
Drive makers use decimal units, so a 1 TB drive holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Windows and most file managers then divide that by 1,024 three times but still label the result "GB", which lands on about 931. Nothing is missing — convert 1 TB to GiB here and the result starts with the same 931 your system reports.
Nearly every upload limit, email attachment cap and mobile data plan is written in decimal MB and GB. A site that accepts files "up to 20 MB" means 20,000,000 bytes, which is only 19.07 MiB — so a file your file manager reports as 19.5 MiB is rejected even though the number looks like it should fit. Convert it to MB here to see the byte count the server will check.
No — one byte is 8 bits, and the two are easy to mix up because the abbreviations look alike. File sizes are given in bytes (B) while network speeds are given in bits per second, so a 100 Mbps connection carries at most about 12.5 MB per second. bit is listed as a unit here, so you can convert either number into the other.
Here is what each format is for, and when converting input into a useful result is the right move.
