The tool reorders pages into saddle-stitch order and pads with blanks to a multiple of 4 — right in your browser.
Print at 100% with short-edge flip, fold the stack and staple the spine. Do a one-sheet test first.
A booklet is not generic 2-up. Pages are reordered into folded signatures so that, once folded and stapled, page 1 faces page 2 correctly — plain 2-up printing keeps the ordinary sequence and cannot be folded into a booklet.
Print at 100% scale (never “fit to page”), flip on the short edge for double-sided printing, and do one test sheet first. Never impose a second booklet pass — the file is already in final print order.
Blank pages are padded to the next multiple of 4 so every folded sheet has a front and back. The blanks appear where a booklet genuinely needs them.

No. The imposition runs entirely in your browser — open developer tools, watch the Network tab, and you will see no upload request.
Here is what each format is for, and when converting straight PDFs into print-ready booklets is the right move.

When you need it
Impose when a small document is meant to be printed, folded and stapled — programs, zines, handbooks, event schedules. For anything read on screen or bound differently, keep the ordinary order. To turn an imposed booklet back into straight pages, use Restore booklet to single pages.
