What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) keeps a document’s layout identical on every device. That is exactly what makes it hard to edit: the text you see is a rendering, not a living paragraph you can retype.

Yes — free, no signup, no watermark. Free use is limited to 5 conversions per day, shared across our upload-based tools.
Yes — and the page tells you so before you start. This tool runs on our server, so your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed, and its temporary copy is deleted when the conversion request finishes — we do not keep uploads. Our other tools run entirely in your browser and upload nothing; the How It Works page lists, tool by tool, which is which.
No — and we won’t pretend otherwise. Plain-text reports come through cleanly, but complex layouts can shift: multi-column pages, text boxes and decorative elements may need touch-up in Word. The text itself is what you are here for.
Tables come through as editable text, laid out in reading order — not as a Word table grid with cells you can reflow. If you need live table structure from a PDF, extract it to Excel once that tool arrives.
Not on its own. A scanned page is an image with no text to convert. Run it through our OCR tool first, then convert the searchable PDF to Word.
It is deleted when the conversion request finishes — we do not keep uploads. If your download is interrupted, the file is already gone: just upload it again and convert it fresh. The attempt counts against the daily limit either way.
Files up to 25 MB and 100 pages. Larger files aren’t supported for now — try splitting the PDF first.
Here is what each format is for, and when converting PDF files to Word is the right move.
What is PDF?
PDF (Portable Document Format) keeps a document’s layout identical on every device. That is exactly what makes it hard to edit: the text you see is a rendering, not a living paragraph you can retype.
What is Word (DOCX)?
DOCX is the format of Microsoft Word, the standard for documents people actually edit. Converting a PDF to Word turns its pages back into editable text — within the limits below.
When you need it
Convert a PDF to Word whenever you need to retype less: reuse a contract’s wording, fix a typo in a report, or build on a document you only have as a PDF. Plain-text reports convert best. Complex layouts shift, and tables come through as editable text rather than a Word table grid. Scanned pages have no text to convert — use our OCR tool first.
