    Frequently asked questions

How do I convert WebP to PNG?

Drop your .webp files here and click Convert. Decoding and re-encoding both happen in your browser.

Is this WebP to PNG converter free?

Yes — free, no signup, no watermark, no per-day limit.

Do I have to upload my files?

No. The WebP decoder and PNG encoder run on your device. To confirm, open developer tools, watch the Network tab, and convert a file — there is no upload request.

    Are my files private?

Yes. They never leave your device.

    Is the PNG lossless?

Yes. PNG stores the image without discarding data, so the pixels match exactly what was decoded from the WebP. Nothing is re-compressed at a lower quality.

Why is my PNG larger than the WebP was?

Because WebP compresses more efficiently than PNG’s lossless scheme. Same pixels, bigger file. If size matters more than perfect fidelity, convert to JPG instead — or convert to PNG and then compress it.

    Does it keep transparency?

Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel, so transparent areas stay transparent — the opposite of what happens when you convert to JPG.

Does it work with animated WebP files?

No. This converter handles still images. Animated .webp files — the kind used for short looping animations — are not supported.

Can I convert several files at once?

Yes. Drop as many as you like and download the PNGs together as a ZIP — a single file downloads on its own.

Do I need an account, and is there a watermark?

No account and no watermark. The output is a clean PNG at the original resolution.

WebP vs PNG — and when to convert

Here is what each format is for, and when converting WebP images to PNG is the right move.

    What is WebP?

WebP is Google’s image format, and a good one: it usually beats JPG on size by a quarter or more and still supports transparency, which JPG cannot do. Its problem is age, not quality — plenty of software predates it. Some versions of Office, older Photoshop releases, certain CMS upload boxes, and a number of desktop tools simply won’t open a .webp, and you often can’t tell which one will fail until it does.

    What is PNG?

PNG is the safe answer: lossless, handles transparency, and read by essentially everything.

    When you need it

Convert WebP to PNG when a client sends a .webp you can’t open, when a CMS or upload form rejects the format, when you need a lossless copy for further editing, or when you need transparency preserved in a tool that doesn’t understand WebP.
