    How to flatten a PDF

    1. Load the PDF

Drop your PDF onto the page — it is opened locally in your browser.

    2. Choose flatten options

Keep the default flatten mode or review options such as flattening annotations too.

    3. Flatten and save

Run the tool and download the flattened PDF — all processing stays on your device.

    Frequently asked questions

What does flattening a PDF do?

It converts interactive form fields and annotations (stamps, notes, highlights) into static page content. The result looks identical but nothing is editable, fillable or removable as an annotation anymore.

Will flattening break existing digital signatures?

Modifying a signed PDF in any way — including flattening — invalidates its existing digital signature. Flatten before signing, never after.

Does it work on XFA forms?

No. Dynamic XFA forms are not supported. The tool flattens standard AcroForm fields, which is what most fillable PDFs use.

    Is my document uploaded?

No. Flattening runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript — your PDF never leaves your device and no account is needed.

    From interactive to fixed

Here is what each format is for, and when converting fillable PDFs into static pages is the right move.

    What is Interactive PDF?

A PDF whose AcroForm fields and annotations live in separate structures layered on top of the page content. Viewers render them dynamically, and tools can edit or delete them.

    What is Flattened PDF?

A PDF where that overlay has been fused into the page itself. What you see is baked in — ideal before emailing forms, archiving records or printing.

    When you need it

Flatten when you finish filling a form and want to stop accidental edits, when a recipient says fields look wrong, or before archiving. Do not flatten signed documents, and note XFA forms are not supported.
