Frequently asked questions

Which Excel formats are supported?

Modern .xlsx workbooks and legacy .xls files, up to 25 MB and 200 pages each. Files with macros or external embedded content are rejected. Free use is limited to 5 conversions per day, shared across our upload-based tools — there is no unlimited option.

Will the PDF look exactly like my spreadsheet?

Conversion uses LibreOffice, so fonts and layout can differ from what Excel shows — spreadsheet rendering is never pixel-perfect. Worksheet print areas are respected and multiple sheets are converted; always check the preview before sending the PDF on.

What about macros or linked content?

Macros and external embedded content are rejected up front and never executed. Only the sheet content itself is converted.

Will the PDF look exactly like my spreadsheet?

Standard sheets convert faithfully, but very wide tables, unusual print areas or exotic fonts can shift. A preview is shown — check it before sending the PDF on.

Does it convert every sheet?

The conversion follows the workbook’s print settings; sheets marked hidden or excluded from printing are not included. Check the preview to confirm what you got.

Is my spreadsheet uploaded?

Yes. Conversion runs on our server and only starts after you confirm the upload on the page. The temporary copy is deleted when the request finishes.

Can I convert Excel back or merge PDFs afterwards?

PDFs cannot be turned back into spreadsheets here. You can merge the resulting PDF with others using our Merge PDF tool.

Spreadsheets vs PDF documents

Here is what each format is for, and when converting Excel workbooks into PDF files is the right move.

What is Excel workbook (XLSX / XLS)?

The live calculation format: cells, formulas, multiple sheets and print settings. Powerful for work, awkward to share — recipients need Excel or a compatible viewer.

What is PDF?

A fixed, frozen snapshot of the printed sheet: it opens the same everywhere, cannot be recalculated, and is the natural format for sending and archiving.

When you need it

Convert when a spreadsheet is finished and needs to be read rather than edited — invoices, schedules, reports for people who should see numbers, not formulas. Print settings drive the layout, so a quick preview check is always worth it.
